Frequently asked questions

What's NMN?

NMN is a form of vitamin B3 that increases NAD+ levels. Why’s that important? NAD+ is essential for energy production in our cells. It powers our immune system, our sleep cycles, and cellular repair, but - and this is a big but - our NAD+ levels decline as we get older. As much as 50% by age 40, up to 80% by 60. Why can’t we directly take NAD+? Well, it can’t get into our system that way. So we have to use a precursor, or in other words we have to take something that our bodies turn into NAD+. Our bodies can turn NMN into NAD+ in just one step. And it’s easily absorbed by the body. Clever, right? Emerging research has shown to have extended the life span in mice, dogs, worms and even yeast use with NMN. This is important from an evolution perspective, because if it’s common amongst vastly different species it means it’s basic to life. And though we don’t know if it can actually extend human life, we know that it can increase your recovery time when you're injured or unwell. Again, this is emerging science, so we eagerly anticipate new developments to continue in the coming years.

What's Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is the technical name for some of the good stuff found in chocolate and red wine. Numerous studies have shown that it may inhibit cancer growth. If that wasn't enough, it may also reduce inflammation and cell damage. BUT! Before you use this as an excuse to hit the wines, keep in mind that you'd have to knock back about 50 litres to get a therapeutic dose. So we suggest eating Relari instead. Now, if you like your science cutting-edge, get this: scientists aren't yet sure exactly how Resveratrol works, only the result it has. Many have been focusing on its ability to upregulate a gene called Sirt1. This gene is responsible for protecting your cells and fixing your DNA. Think of Sirt1 as a contractor for your house. It tells the brick layers where to lay bricks and patch walls.

What's Quercitin?

Quercitin is a plant compound that is widely abundant in nature, but in limited quantities. Vegetables like Kale, capers, and onion all contain quercitin. A powerful anti-oxidant, quercitin can help to protect against free radicals that cause cellular damage. Some studies have found that quercitin has a lowering effect on blood pressure, but the evidence is not conclusive. According to Mount Sinai hospital, quercitin may help protect against heart disease and cancer and help to stabilize the cells that release histamine, thus reducing inflammatory and histamine reactions.

What are Omega-3s?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for human health. Your body can’t make omega-3 fatty acids, so you have to get them from food. Typically the main source of Omega-3 fatty acids is fish. That’s because vegetarian Omega-3s (ALA) don’t convert efficiently to other types of omega-3s (DHA& EPA). Although we usually get DHA and EPA from fish, it is actually made from algae where it works its way up the aquatic food chain. Omega-3 fatty acids are important building blocks for our cells. Studies have shown Omega-3 fatty acids protect our hearts, brains and cells. In fact, DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in our brains. Deficiencies of DHA in the brain are linked to neuropathy and reduced brain health.
